The building form chosen is a classic L-shape model. The brief was to create a building of unique and icon status on the prominent corner site on the high-volume arterial route of Cameron Road.
The hospitality is anchored by a serous café offer that is given primacy at the Cameron Road frontage. An important facet of the design was to ensure a seamless transition between the corporate lobby and the café, to highlight the café as a vibrant communal space at the heart of the development. This is achieved, in compliance with the fire code, by use of a series pocket fire doors that are invisible during normal operation concealed within partitions.
The carpark forecourt was also given high level of attention, with the usual concrete kerbing, black asphalt and white line marking nowhere to be seen. Replaced instead with coloured concrete, cobbles and terrazzo pavers and importantly, no trip hazards!
The icon status of the design is reinforced with the use of deeply articulated strong forms in solid and permanent materials: precast concrete, metal, and glass.
