OPEN | ACCESSIBLE | COMFORTABLE.
In order to achieve this, we used a majority of exterior quality materials, basalt pavers exterior light fittings, tiles and timber. The ceiling was painted black, and the ambient lighting solution was a myriad of one hundred festoon halogen burners in a variety of simple shades. The concept was to create a lantern festival ‘mass-lantern-launching’ against a night sky. Cooking was front and centre positioned in the entry and was fashioned to be reminiscent of a mobile food trolley, evocative of what you would find if you we in an traditional Thai Street market. The shop front was set back and bifolded to allow, when weather permits, the entire width of entrance to be opened up to create an extension of the street. Wall paper at the rear of the space is reminiscent of an urban skyline. Details such as the imported hand picked Thai lampshades over the bar provide the a quirky traditional touch.
We extended the breif to ensure that the toilets were also an experience, using found elements, ethnic wallpapers and exterior materials. As always F+D=A used provided a varitey of seating typologies, all designed to be venacular; that is practical, vital and useful.
