Initially the site was identified as part of a master planning exercise and occupies a prime location at the entrance to the Commercial Zone within the 8-hectare Wooing Tree Estate. It then became an architectural base build project and then a fitout, all undertaken by F+D=A.
The hardworking 350sqm single level building is multi-functional: including Wine Tasting, Retail sales, Restaurant and Functions Centre and office/Store components, replacing the client’s previous premise, that was removed as part of the intensification of the original vineyard site.
The selection of appropriate aesthetics was crucial within the very sensitive central Otago location. A series of typologies for possible development were tabled as part of the design process before achieving the final form. The building could be described as dominant and yet reserved, both rustic and refined.
